This course is intended for TH Community Corrections staff only. Research clearly demonstrates that agencies that target higher risk offenders and that utilize cognitive-behavioral techniques are more effective at reducing recidivism than agencies that do not employ these strategies. Consequently, the EPICS Model integrates cognitive-behavioral teaching strategies into traditional case management interactions with high risk clients. The approach is unique in that it moves away from compliance-based interactions to change-based interations. Participants are taught to help clients identify high risk thinking and situations and to teach the clients the skills necessary to desist from crime. |
